Our South Africa Expedition has ended! But you can still watch all of our webcasts in the archive.

We are excited to officially announce our Fall 2010 Expedition to South Africa; a partnership between UCF and Cobham, directed by Phil Peters. From November 15th to December 9th, we will be on the road from Johannesburg to Cape Town and webcasting live on location twice a week. Join us as we explore contemporary African culture, art, music, and dance, by interviewing the artists who are defining what it means to be South African after apartheid.

This expedition is designed to enhance two online classes at the University of Central Florida. Over 100 students will travel with us to Africa, without leaving the comfort of their home computers. By tuning into eight live webcast sessions, the students will be able to experience Africa in real time; interacting with their instructor and local people through live video conferencing. For students with busy schedules and multiple classes, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to have a hands-on cultural experience, without physically leaving home.

Interactive Expeditions is an independent mobile research lab at the University of Central Florida. This partnership between UCF and Cobham, directed by Professor Phil Peters, employs modern mobile satellite antenna technology and two-way video conferencing in order to connect at-home learners with instructors who are live in the field.

The INTX team travels around the world with sophisticated satellite technology by TracStar, producing live interactive webcasts from remote and hard-to-access locations. Our research has taken us to the underwater caves of Bermuda, to northern India, and will soon take us to the villages of South Africa and Swaziland. [INTX Homepage]
